Kartell was founded in 1949 by the chemical engineer Giulio Castelli, and later joined by his wife; the architect Anna Castelli Ferrieri.
The duo was a tour de force, especially in the design of high-quality plastics, creatively driven by Anna who created design icons such as the timeless Componibili Storage Unit.
In 1988 the couple moved the direction of the company to their son-in-Law Laudio Luti, who undertook more collaborations with external designers and furthered the research into materials. Some of the collaborations included Ron Arad's Kartell Book Worm bookshelf and the Kartell Louis Ghost Chair by Philippe Stark.
From museums to living rooms, labs to offices; Kartell's story speaks of a company that has progressed the world of design and technology forward and shown that objects we use everyday needn't stay the same. Kartell inspires us all to think differently about the things we do and the spaces we inhabit.
